'Wood Sculptures' by Merijn Hos

25.10.2014

Stickit presents ‘Wood Sculptures by Merijn Hos’, a new publication by illustrator and visual artist Merijn Hos. To celebrate the release of this publication, Merijn will build an installation with a bright collection of Wood Sculptures.

Until this day, Merijn has made more than 350 unique wood sculptures, varying in size, shape and color.

Merijn: “I began the creation process by drawing objects that appear frequently in my work – for example plants, faces and pottery – in their most simple form, narrowing each item down to the essence of their shape. The drawings were then cut out
of wood and finalized with house paint and acrylics. Being inspired by Art Brut and Folk Art, I decided to paint rather abstract forms in a naive way.”.
The sculptures have been exhibited at Beginnings Gallery in New York, Krets Gallery
in Malmö, Third Drawer Down in Melbourne, Conduit Gallery in Dallas, Design Museum Helsinki, gallery Nina Sagt in Düsseldorf, Kunsthall Stavanger and at Grey East in
East Hampton.
